Basic Crochet Sweater For Your Chi

This sweater can be made for a boy or girl by the use of colors and/or special pattern stitches as described in the note before Row 8
MATERIALS:
Caron Simply Soft or Red Heart Super Soft for Main Color (2 oz)
Small amount of a Contrasting Color.
Size G hook
Yarn Needle
NECK BANDS AND YOKE:
Row 1...ch 40, sc in second ch from hook and next 38 chs, ch 1, turn (39sts)
Row 2...sc in first st, hdc in next 3 sts, (dc in next 7 sts, 2dcs in next st) 3 times, dc in next 7 sts, hdc in next 3 sts, sc in last st, ch 1, turn (42sts)
Row 3...2dc in first st, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 4 sts, (2dcs in next st, dc in next 3 sts) 7 times, hdc in next 4 sts, sc in next 2 sts, 2scs in last st, ch 1, turn (51sts)
Row 4...sc in first 4 sts, hdc in next 4 sts, (2dcs in next st, dc in next 4) 7 times, hdc in next 4 sts, sc in next 3 sts, 2scs in last st, ch 1, turn (58sts)
Row 5...2scs in first st, hdc in next 4 sts, (2dcs in next st, dc in next 5 sts) 7 times, hdc in next 4 sts, sc in next 3 sts, 2scs in last st, ch 1, turn (67sts)
Row 6...sc in first 5 sts, hdc in next 4 sts, (2dcs in next st, dc in next 6 st6s) 7 times, hdc in next 4 sts, sc in last 5 sts, fasten off (DO NOT turn) (74sts)
GARMENT:
Row 7...Change to contrasting color and attach with a sl st to first sc of row 6, sc across 74 sts,, 3sc in next end of first row, sc in end of next 4 rows, 3scs in end of next row, , sc 39 sts of neck opening, 3 scs in end of first row of neck band 2, sc in end of next 4 rows, 2 scs in beginning st, Join with a slip st, fasten off (DO NOT turn)
Row 8...Change to main color and attach to 18th st from corner, .), dc in next 41 sts, turn
NOTE: You will be working over 41sts from now on, so if you wish to use a pattern, adjust your stitches to accommodate the required number of stitches for the pattern.)
I have chosen a simple post pattern for this sample which would be appropriate for a boy. A more lacy pattern may be used for a girl.
Row 9...ch 3, dc in next 9 sts, BPdc in next st, (dc in next 4 sts, BPdc in ext st) 4 times, dc in last 10 sts, turn
Row 10...ch 3, dc in next 9 sts, FPdc in next post, (dc in next 4 sts, FPdc around next post.) 4 times, dc in last 10 sts.
Row 11 - 17...Repeat rows 9 and 10 alternately.
Row 18 - 25 …ch 3, dc dec, keep in pattern to last 2 sts, dc dec, turn
Row 26...ch 1, sc dec, sc in next 21 sts, sc dec, working up sides of rows, work 2 scs in ends of each dc row, sc around first neck band, sc around neck opening to top of 2nd neck band, cg 3, skip 2, sc in next 2, ch 3, skip 2, sc around rest of top, 2scs in ends of each dc row to bottom, join with a sl st. Fasten off
BELLY BAND:
Row 1...Fasten yarn in sc between row 11 and 12, sc 11, ch1, turn
Row 2...skip first sc, sc 8, skip 1, sc in last st, ch1, turn
Row 3 - 13... sc in 9 sts, ch1, turn
Row 14...sc in first st, ch 3, skip 2, sc in next 3, ch 3, skip 2, sc in last st., join with a slip stitch in next st. Fasten off
FINISHING:
Secure all ends, sew on buttons, add any decorations such as bows, flowers, appliqués, etc
